take a break
sometimes you just need to take a break from what you're doing & smell the roses. or better yet, draw them.
so this is what i came up with during my break...

pierre
two weeks ago, i adopted a kitten to keep me company in my new apartment! i was planning on doing this for a while and it seemed like the right time. i'm settled in to my place & i could definitely use the company!
i decided to adopt from the SPCA of westchester on one of my days off from work.
when i arrived at the shelter, with a few of my friends for support, i was led to the kitty corner where all the cats are housed. there was a seperate kitten room & that's when i saw the cutest black & white long-haired kitten sitting, waiting for someone to love him!
after holding him for a while i decided i wouldn't be able to leave the shelter without him, so i filled out the application, and a half hour later we were in the car driving home!
so far he has been the most adorable kitten i could hope for! he is affectionate and loves to play with toys and my feet. i can't help but smile & laugh whenever i look at him!
i'm sure this is just the first of many 'pierre' related posts!

alumni & family weekend
this past weekend i took a trip up to my college town, ONEONTA, NY. i haven't been there in a year so it was really good to go back & feel nostalgic for college days.
the best part is the 3 hour car ride. i love listening to my music & knitting or drawing... the ride is very scenic as well, especially in the fall. we passed a lot of pretty overlooks & farmland.
the two days in oneonta included a lot of eating at the various establishments in town, hitting a few of the local bars & of course, shopping.
i stayed with my parents & brother in the hotel so it almost felt like a mini vacation!
at the campus bookstore i bought this 'vintage' style shirt & my brother bought a sticker for our car. we have lots of school spirit going on! there was a CRAFT FAIR as well & my mother and i bought a lot of goodies :)
it was a fun weekend & i hope to be back in oneonta soon!

put your records on
this past saturday after spending some time in the city, my friend EMILY and i came back to my studio apartment and had a very girlie-yet-grown up sleepover. we ate fresh cookies from insomia & watched 30 rock while we caught up on life.
emily had just spent some time living in wisconsin, so she was on a great BON IVER kick. of course i didn't mind, so i put his first record for emma, forever ago on my crosley record player...
there is something so serene & soothing about listening to your favorite record, don't you think?
happy wednesday!

first days of autumn
hello! how have you been?
lately, i've been enjoying myself in the new apartment... i sewed curtains for my window, baked cupcakes multiple times & hosted my first little party for some friends!
it's been busy around here too. summer has finally wound down & freelance work is picking up quickly.
i felt the first days of fall a few weeks ago, towards the end of september. it was chilly & rainy, but i honestly didn't mind throwing on jeans & my new blouse i bought so long ago but has been too hot to wear.
i love the menswear pattern of this blouse, while the silky material & the bib neckline keep it feminine. since buying this shirt at the end of the summer sort of inspired my autumn "look" this year!
i'm really looking forward to thrifting for lots of buttondowns, flannels & cable knit sweaters. i'm also really in the mood for black ankle boots & gold sparkly accessories! (i'm thinking about some DIYs for those, too)
what special pieces are you looking forward to this fall?

petit dejeuner
bonjour! ça va?
today i wanted to share with you the most adorable cafe in my neighborhood called antoinette's patisserie.
antoinette's is a family run business that bakes and cooks everything on site...
including roasting their own coffee. can we talk about how amazing that is?
i went there for brunch a few sundays ago to people watch & draw in my sketchbook.
it was really nice seeing how community oriented & friendly my town is.
i ordered a croque monsieur with a side of fresh fruit & an iced cappuccino...
it was the best brunch i ever had.
i'm definitely excited to become a 'regular' at antoinette's!
happy wednesday :)

welcome

hello! welcome to OH SEPTEMBER!
in case you don't know me already, my name is gabrielle brittney. you might recognize me from my previous blog, all things inspiring... or twitter... or maybe even in real life.
i've been blogging for a while now, but all of a sudden it seemed like the right time for a new beginning; in real life & on the web.
i just moved to a new town, into my own little studio apartment. it's a bit north of new york city in a tiny river town called hastings-on-hudson. it's quaint & artsy with tons of history.
i work a full time job as a web designer, although my heart really lies in the creative arts. you know, the messy paint-on-my-pants, glue-in-my-hair, marker-on-my-face kind of arts... ya know?
so, now that i'm living alone, i think it's the best time & place to start creating what i've been dreaming of!
i'm more inspired than ever & i'm ready to share my story with you.
my first story will be one of many reasons why september is a significant month for me... september is my birthday month!
this year i turned 23. i probably don't look a day over 18.
but that's besides the point...
i like to draw & i like fashion, so drawing what i wear is simply the most natural thing to do. i also 'borrow' a lot of my mother's clothing, so look out for that as well ;)
i also like to take pictures. i recently just bought a canon SLR film camera & i love it. film doesn't even compare to digital in my book... so i'll also be posting those photos here as well!
the first picture above was taken by me during my summer in brooklyn... just in time to say good bye*
i think that's enough for today, so welcome, relax, stay a while... enjoy!
& have a wonderful weekend.
LOVE, gabrielle
